Policies and Guidelines

Princeton University is committed to the humane care of laboratory animals in research. The University supports research that results in the:

  • the reduction of the number of animals used,
  • the refinement of procedures which result in less pain or distress to the animal, and
  • the replacement of animals with non-animal systems whenever possible.

Research involving animals must strive to yield fruitful results for the good of society and not be random or unnecessary in nature. When use of laboratory animals is deemed necessary, the University has in place strong policies and standard operating procedures that govern animal care and treatment.

Animal Research Protection policies are available only to Princeton personnel.

Princeton personnel may log in using a Princeton NetID.
