AAALAC and Accreditation

AAALAC, a non-profit organization, promotes high standards of animal care, use, and well-being and enhances life sciences, research, and education through the accreditation process. Institutions voluntarily seek AAALAC Accreditation to demonstrate a commitment to excellence. 

Through the confidential peer-review of the program, successful (re-)accreditation:

  • Provides opportunity for enhancement of Princeton’s elite ACUP
    • Philosophy - we should always be "site visit ready"
    • Reality - 
      • We are always adhering to regulation
      • We do, always conduct animal activities humanely and ethically
    • Additionally- excellent opportunity to pause and self-assess 
      • Are things as we believe them to be?
      • Can we improve?
  • Demonstrates accountability to public 
  • Can have a favorable impact on funding proposal review (e.g., accreditation verifies adherence to regulation​)
  • Can increase the probability of collaborations​ (e.g., easier to give funds when recipient is AAALAC accredited)
